Evelyne first stepped into music at the age
of fifteen as a choir member of “Le Phare de la Cité,” an
annex of the First Baptist Church of Port-au-Prince where
she spent her youth. Later, she joined the mass choir of the
church, along with other musical groups such as “Galed” and
“Echo du Phare.” Very involved, Evelyne profusely invested
her time and talent into ministry where she directed worship
services, served as an usher, participated in drama
ministry, assisted youth groups and managed events.
While teaching elementary school and Sunday school at the
same church, Evelyne discovered her gift of teaching which
is one of her passions. She became part of the youth choir
at the Mother Church, and then ministered in Bolosse Baptist
Church Choir for a while even though she was not a member
there. She also sang as part of the International Choir in
the national music conference held in Limbe of Cap Haitian,
Haiti where she first began taking voice and piano lessons.
Then, she pursued her musical education at the College Bird
School of Music where she was learning to play violin. She
continued her singing career as a performer in the
international choir, “Messiah” lodged in Petion-Ville, Haiti
on Christmas. She was known for a while as singer of “Zetwal,”
a nationally established Haitian Gospel Band. Evelyne was
also a co-host of “Lumiere Magazine” at Radio Lumiere,
Haiti, the largest Christian radio station.
While attending college in Miami, Florida where she lives
now, she took vocal class at Miami Dade College, African
Drum class and presented different performances with the
African Drum Band. Then, she moved for higher education to
Florida International University and was part of the African
club there while studying.
She is a member of “Three Little Flowers Inc.” an
organization that supports education through the Haitian
Linguist, Yves Dejan. She is also supporting a school in
Haiti by giving a percentage of her production. Since she
entered the school system in Miami, she’s been working with
Haitian students to build up their self esteem and teach
them how to keep up with the Haitian culture, family values
and the importance of getting a good education in a foreign
country.
Her countless awards include Radio Lumiere’s “Best Haitian
Christian female singer” award, a “Covenant of Christian
Musicians” award for her contribution to the Haitian Gospel
Music, and a “Haitian Company of Promotion” award. She was
also awarded by the Haitian Christian Star for her
“outstanding musical and vocal talent and faithful
dedication to the broken hearted.” Evelyne was a
sought-after finalist of the Tele Max Christmas music
contest.
Evelyne released her first album “Yon Lot Fwa Anko” in 1999
and left her country, Haiti in the year of 2000. After
taking some time off to sharpen her talents, immerse in
ministry, and improve her education; her second album “My
Life Has Changed” is now ready along with a live performance
album while she is working on her third featured music video
Ma Vie a Changé” is Evelyne’s lyrics and melody along with a
few others. She sings the original soundtrack of the movie
“Blooming Hope” made by an organization at St Thomas
University in collaboration of the Haitian people of
Port-de-Paix, Haiti in developing the production of coffee.
Between the two releases, moving to the United States,
Evelyne followed the will of God who allowed her to
cultivate her passion for music as a worship team member of
the multicultural church, Tabernacle of Glory (TG). Evelyne
has now been serving under the leadership of TG’s senior
pastor, Gregory Toussaint since the very beginning of that
ministry, about five years ago. She is also the Social
Development coordinator of that church.
As a sociologist/anthropologist and educator, Evelyne plans
on studying the Haitian social and church community. As a
fashion designer, she is drafting the blueprint for her line
of Christian wear; and as a woman of God, she roots her
ministry in Isaiah 61:1, a vision given to her by God. “To
live for and please God; to love and enjoy life, to care for
and serve others,” that sums up Evelyne’s drive.
